Case Study: How Click Testing Provides Foundation For Content & Business Strategy

And how you can use it to build content that connects and offers that sell

If you’ve ever sat down to create write a post or build an offer and thought, “I have no idea what my ideal client actually wants,”—you’re not alone. You’re also not stuck.

Last week, I ran into a similar situation. I had no idea what you needed, what you were feeling, or what content would help you build your business in spite of everything that’s going on in the world. I had an idea. I got to networking events, when when the music isn’t trying to make us all deaf, I listen to what you’re saying and to what you’re not saying. However, my initial takes were flops.

Here’s the thing. I went out the chute thinking I’d excel without having to do the things I have you do because… I’m a content strategist, so this is easy for me. Right?

Wrong.

The steps are there for a reason and they apply to me as well.

So, I set up a simple click test and within 24 hours, I had enough information to create an easy and wildly effective lead magnet, and put together a content plan that will connect with you and help you grow. It took 20 minutes to set up—and the results were eye-opening.

Here’s the information I gathered and the strategy I’m putting together to support you. This shows you how you can do the same to clarify your message, build aligned offers, and create content that actually gets traction.

💡 What is Click Testing?

Click testing is a low-pressure, high-impact way to ask your audience what’s hitting hardest—without sending out a complicated survey or spending hours building a funnel.

I created a visual set of emotional “I” statements—like:

  • “I don’t think people understand what I do.”

  • “I feel burned out all the time.”

  • “I’m creating content constantly but still not growing.”

Then I asked:
👉 “Which of these statements feels most true for you right now?”

Each vote was a tiny window into the mind of my ideal client.

📊 The Final Results

From the 30+ responses, a pattern emerged:

  1. “I don’t think people understand what I do.”
→ Core messaging isn’t landing. There’s confusion at the root.

  2. “I feel burned out all the time.”
→ Systems are broken or nonexistent. Content and business feel exhausting.

  3. “I need automation but don’t know where to start.”
→ There’s desire for ease—but fear of overwhelm in setting it up.

  4. “I’m undercharging and unsure how to price myself.”
→ Confidence, structure, and value perception are unclear.

  5. “I’m constantly creating content but not growing.”
→ The content hamster wheel is running, but the strategy is missing.

🔍 What I Did With That Info

I didn’t just smile and say “good to know.”
I used those results to refine my offerings and content calendar.

✅ I launched the What Do You Do? Decoder to help with core messaging clarity.

I heard you and I created a workbook that helps you decode your core message.

And then I gave it away for free.

This is 100% one of the biggest deals with your business. If you can’t tell people what you do quickly and with some excitement, people won’t buy from you. They won’t accept your services.

So, in exchange for your email, I’m giving you this workbook.

“Okay. You want my email because you’re going to spam me.”

No. The other part of my content strategy is to send you emails each week, telling you about the blog, vlog, and social media content I’m putting out, and to let you know of teh workbooks I’m developing to help you build a stronger, more resilient business that doesn’t burn you out.

✅ I’m creating more content around sustainable growth and avoiding burnout.

You’re concerned about sustainable growth and avoiding or recovering from burnout.

Me too!

So! As I create more content for myself and my clients, I’m sharing that here.

Right now, I have blog posts, vlogs, and workbooks planned from now through July that should be fun and should help you build your business.

✅ I’m reshaping my strategy tools to focus on automation + pricing.

Automation is a sleep-walk set up for me and I’ve helped dozens and dozens of service providers with their pricing, even those burly men who like to tell me I have no way of knowing how to strategize their pricing structure, “Because you don’t understand what it takes to be a service provider, honey.”

Oh, but, sweetie, I really do. I’ve been doing this shit for over 30 years. You don’t do this without learning at least something.

And my pricing strategies work.

Now… if I could just figure that out for myself, that’d be awesome. Why is it easy to help you and not me? IDFK.

This is how strategy works. Not with guesswork, but with listening—and then building from what’s real.

🪴 How You Can Use Click Testing in Your Business

Here’s the good news: you can use this too, whether you’re building content, launching a service, or trying to understand your ideal client better.

Here’s how:

  1. Put together your click test ad and run it.
I spent $30 and got my results before I went to bed that night.

  2. Collect your likes and cheap clicks
The ones with the cheapest Cost Per Clicks and the most clicks are your winning ideas.

  3. Use what you learn to:

    • Design offers that meet your clients where they actually are

    • Create content that speaks directly to their pain and then guides them through the transition you can help with

    • Adjust your messaging for better clarity

🌿 Final Thought

Click testing doesn’t replace strategy—it feeds it.

It bridges the gap between what you think they need and what they’re actually living through. It helps you build a business that responds instead of guesses.

Because good content doesn’t start with a caption.
It starts with listening.
